NCTC Programs

Producing Theatre Gathering - a gathering for theatre administrators with workshops and discussions on a variety of current issues including Audience Development, Fundraising, Board Development, and more.

Fall Theatre Gathering – the largest gathering of theatre artists in the state, the Fall Gathering includes: the SETC Screening Auditions, the College/University Fair, Unified College Auditions for High School Seniors, the State High School Play Festival, Community Theatre Festival and more.

High School Play Festival - more than 80 High School drama programs from across the state participate in eight regional one-act play festivals, showcasing the talents of over 2,000 students annually. Adjudicators provide feedback, present awards, and select two plays from each site to advance to the State Festival at the Fall Gathering.

Middle School Play Festival – similar to the High School Play Festival, the Middle School festival functions both as a showcase and as a means of assessing and improving the standards of theatre arts programs in the state. Process is as highly valued as the product. The festivals are used as a catalyst for motivating students to do their best work.

SETC Screening Auditions - Each March, the Southeastern Theatre Conference hosts combined Professional Auditions for approximately 100 hiring theatres as part of the annual SETC convention. NCTC provides the required state screening service at the NCTC Fall Theatre Gathering.

Unified College Auditions/Tech Interviews - a unique opportunity for High School Seniors to audition/interview for many of North Carolina’s College and University Theatre Programs - in one place, at one time, for one low fee – at the NCTC Fall Theatre Gathering.

Free Night of Theater - NCTC is pleased to serve as a Regional Managing Partner for Free Night of Theater – administered by Theatre Communications Group. Free Night of Theatre is a national audience development program to attract new theatergoers to America’s professional not-for-profit theatres.

ARTS Day - NCTC is a proud sponsor of ARTS Day, a program of ARTS North Carolina, which brings together artists from across the state to deliver a unified advocacy message to the NC legislature.

Professional Theatre Management Internship - a paid, three-month, summer internship program that connects a Professional Theatre in North Carolina with a college student or graduate who intends to pursue a career in professional theatre management.

Scholarships - NCTC’s Education Fund awards two scholarships, the William Rackley Undergraduate Theatre Scholarship and the Constance Welsh TYA Graduate Studies Scholarship.

The NCTC Awards - Each year, the NCTC Board of Directors seeks nominations from the membership for the NCTC Awards. Upon a board vote, the awards are presented to companies, schools, and individuals that have exhibited leadership roles in their community, as well as artistic, professional, or educational excellence.
