NCTC Scholarships

The Constance Welsh Memorial Theatre Scholarship was established to support undergraduate or graduate study in the field of Theatre for Youth or Theatre Arts Education. The scholarship is an unrestricted award. Up to $3,000 will be awarded.

The scholarship will be awarded to a full-time student at a college or university in North Carolina, who is majoring in Theatre for Youth or Theatre Arts Education. Rising undergraduate juniors and seniors, or those currently enrolled or enrolling in a graduate program for the 2018-19 academic year are eligible to apply. Successful applicants will have demonstrated a high degree of academic achievement, as well as a commitment to and potential for success in their field. Priority will be given to students with a GPA of 3.25 or higher. The deadline to apply for this scholarship is Friday, April 6 at 11:59pm.

  • A personal statement (no more than 500 words) should explain why the applicant is deserving of the scholarship, and what receiving the scholarship would mean to him/her.
  • Two letters of recommendation (from professors, directors, youth leaders or other appropriate mentors) that can speak to the applicant’s character, as well as their work in theatre.

Application

Applications will be reviewed by a committee from the NCTC Board of Directors. Finalists for the scholarship may be asked to participate in a phone interview. Applicants will be notified by May 1 if selected for the award.

About NCTC Scholarships

NCTC awards two scholarships in alternating years: the William Rackley Theatre Scholarship, and the Constance Welsh Memorial Scholarship, which supports undergraduate or graduate study in the field of Theatre for Youth or Theatre Education.

NCTC also awards scholarships in connection with the NCTC High School Play Festival and NCTC College Discovery Day.
