NCTC joins theatre artists and educators across the state in mourning the loss of our beloved friend and colleague Daniel A. Seaman (March 11, 1951 – December 7, 2020). His legacy of “Love and Laughter” lives on in the lives of thousands of former students, and he was especially proud of the dozens of those learners who became teachers in their own right. His high school theatre festival entries received “Distinguished Play” recognition in 1988 at the Southeastern Theatre Conference (SETC) and six times from 1983-94 at the North Carolina Theatre Conference (NCTC), and he was given the “Outstanding Achievement in Directing” award a record nine times. Most notably, adjudicators presented the “Outstanding Achievement in Ensemble Theatre” award to his student cast and crew an unprecedented 16 times. Upon his retirement as a secondary school educator, the NCTC Board voted unanimously to rename the state festival’s ensemble award in his honor.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions and memorials be made to the North Carolina Theatre Conference in honor of Dan Seaman. Donations will support the Daniel A. Seaman Award for Outstanding Achievement in Ensemble Theatre.  Click “Donate” to make a secure contribution via Paypal.
